Redeeming Families Orphan Ministry

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27, NIV)

Whether it’s through adoption or orphan relief, God is calling the church to care for the orphans of the nations. As a matter of fact, He mentions the fatherless in His Word more than 50 times — it’s clear it’s an issue near and dear to His heart.

Redeeming Families Orphan Ministry seeks to raise awareness to Christians in our community about the plight of orphans around the world and our responsibility as Christians to help them.

Did You Know?

  • According to the United Nations there are 143 million orphans in the world
  • More than 1/3 of Americans have seriously considered adopting but no more than 2% have actually adopted
  • On average children waiting for adoption have been in foster care for almost 4 years

What Can You Do?

(Excerpted from Hope for Orphan’s “10 Ways Every Christian can care for the Orphan and Waiting Child)

  • Plead with the Father for them. Go online and pray for a waiting child. (www.adoptuskids.org or www.rainbowkids.com)
  • Speak up for them. Be their advocate – talk to others about a specific child who needs a home.
  • Give them what they need. Donate a washing machine or crib – or a pack of diapers – to an orphanage.  You can also designate financial gifts to an orphanage in the country of your choice through www.helporphans.org
  • Support those who support them. Bring a meal to a foster parent, or get approved by the State to babysit foster children.  Throw a shower for a family who is adopting older children.  Commit to praying for a DCF social worker.
  • Provide them a safe place. Consider becoming a foster parent or emergency foster parent for short term placements.  Build an orphanage – visit www.worldorphans.org to learn how a gift of a few thousand dollars can cover the building costs of an orphanage in one of dozens of countries.
  • Go visit them. Go on a missions trip to an orphanage.
  • Give sacrificially to them. Give financially to orphan care ministries such as www.orphanvoice.org
  • Cheer them on. Sponsor a child both through monthly financial support and ongoing encouragement.  Visit www.orphanvoice.org for information.
  • Give them a forever family. You can give a child a home through international, domestic, or foster care adoption.  To learn more about these types of adoption, contact Redeeming Families at Jenifer@redeemingfamilies.com

God Promises His blessings upon those who care for the orphan

“For when the ear heard, it called me blessed, and when the eye saw, it gave witness of me, because I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the orphan who had no helper.  The blessing of the one ready to perish came upon me, and I made the widow’s heart sing for joy.(Job 29:11-13, NASB)
